Blythe Suzanna Montgomery Todd has spent her entire life helping her stern and distant Grandmother Cadence support her "events" and "projects". But when Grandmother Cadence dies, she leaves Blythe her prestigious West Hollow, housing elegant antiques, a gargoyle, and a number of secrets.
And the women of West Hollow have their own secrets, and Blythe is about to learn of them.
This is a novel of 110,000 words. It is at times serious, playful, sexy, and powerful. And, perhaps, a little juvenile, but growing up is overrated.

Blythe Todd was a different character of sorts, I wanted to like her and tried to, but yet I did not hate her. Inside all of the madness, that was this story of a secret society of women who seem to get off more on utilizing their power to control within the circle rather than to except their for its originally intended purposes, was actually a budding love story between Ms. Todd and her friend Kiki.I am not sure if this story is for everyone, and I admit that I did put this book down a time or two and read other things in the interim, yet I am glad that I finished, and unlike other reviewers I understood the conclusion and actually liked it.

Secret Society edition by Robin Roseau Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Well written intriguing storyline. Characters are developed with complete human frailties including our darker sides. I was left emotionally spent, I wanted more justice yet there really wasn't anymore to mete out only forgiveness.
Despite pretending otherwise, Joe P Larson (The author's real name) is a man that writes about one thing and one thing only, women abusing other women's bodies, minds and trust. His books are just devices to have the main character humiliated and betrayed by those women closest to her. This book is no exception. As always, the villains offer half-wit excuses about why they NEEDED to abuse the heroine, and it was all for her own good. Joe just gets off on women getting abused.
I really had trouble deciding whether this should be 3 or 4 * - there are aspects that I loved, others that I hated. Robin Roseau is a fantastic writer- writing in the first person, almost always with only one viewpoint character (VC), the books really draw you in and get you involved in the story (I'm still not sure whether I identify with the VCs or fall in love with them - maybe a bit of both)- and that's also the problem, because Roseau's (invariably female) VCs generally have a pretty bad time. Usually (but not always) it's better by the end- but in the meantime, Roseau excels at constructing plots in which it is necessary and reasonable for the VC's most trusted friends (so called) and/or lover to treat her terribly, and I for one find that having been drawn into sympathy with the VC, this seriously affects me. For me, Robin Roseau's books are like a bad drug- almost impossible to resist when available, a compulsive rush when in progress- but with a terrible come-down afterwards involving anger (with the people who have treated the VC so badly, and with the VC herself for allowing it, and usually eventually forgiving it), then interrupted sleep and distraction during the day as I go over the plot and the treatment of the VC over and over again in my head. For anyone else with the same problem - and with apologies to Robin Roseau - my mantra is 'It's just a silly story'. It sort of helps...
This book is fairly typical of Roseau's work. From the description I was hoping it would be on the lighter end but it's really not. It's not much of a spoiler to reveal that much of the book is about the initiation process into the society of the title. The process goes on for months, and it's awful. There is hazing, which is voluntary, but the process is set up so the initiate pretty much has to request it. The hazing starts out pretty terrible, and just keeps getting worse- physically and emotionally abusive, in various combinations. Then things get really bad. The end- the end is happy - I suppose- but who has changed whom, really? Sorry that's a bit obscure- it will make sense if you read the book and get to the end. Roseau's variable sized streak of D/S is fairly strong in this book- there are quite a few references, and one long scene described in considerable detail. If you like bondage and kink you'll probably enjoy that scene a lot to read- maybe not so much in hindsight though... No explicit sex BTW.
Should you read it? Chances are you've either never read anything by Roseau, in which case I'd start with something lighter- (my favourites are Fitting In, which is not kinky at all, and The Interrogation, which definitely is), or you've read a lot - in which case you may want to know how traumatic this one is, on a scale of Cooking for Love (1) to Blood Slave (10). Well, I'd put it at about a 7, I think- not as bad as Blood Slave, Fox Dish (the trial) and Seer, but worse, I found, than ones like Galatzi trade & Tresjolie. Maybe on a par with Challenge, and it has quite a bit in common with the Madison Wolves various bride-ransom nights.
Basically, Roseau is a awesome writer - but you need to approach with a lot of caution!
I have never read a bad book by this author! Naughty ...yes, but never boring or predictable. There are so many strong, wonderful women in this story. Maybe....someday there will be more about them? I would love to know some of the back story on Grandmother Cadence and the Grandfather that Blythe remembers! Wow I didn't see that coming!
And Sylvia is such an amazing character with her own way of seeing and dealing with the world around her. I wonder at the special person who will make that connection.
First let me say that I already wrote a review on this book and mistakenly posted it on the Collection book. Oops...my bad. Now with that being said, I loved the book Collected by Robin, it brought out very strong emotion in me. The fear when she was taken and the rage when she discovered why she was taken. Wow I was pissed. It was very emotional, I loved it. I highly recommend this book.
Please read the reviews for Collected to read my review on Secret Society, which by the way I also highly recommend. Sorry for the confusion.
Thank You
You read this author's books expecting certain things. One of them is is a tension headache from gritting your teeth interspersed with yelling "No, damn it, No!" into an empty room.
Loved it!!! Then again I really love most of Robin Roseau's stuff. Some parts threw me off but the end tied it together.
